Get ready to be inspired…primally! Meet Kelly and her blog, Primally Inspired. Kelly not only has some of the best and most commonly known recipes out there in Paleo-internet-food-land, but she has a variety of shopping, planning and natural product resources catalogued on her website essential for anyone living the Paleo life. This girl is more than just recipes! I very much appreciate her down-to-earth approach to maintaining Paleo for the long haul without compromising the fundamentals. She’s one of my favorites and I hope she becomes one of yours as well!
The best thing I ever ate was from a newer blog called The Clean Dish and it is the Raw Vegan Raspberry Cheesecake. Omg, it’s so good! The taste and texture is perfect—just like regular cheesecake. And the best part is that you make them in 6 individual serving bowls so you can pull one out whenever you need a sweet treat. It’s genius. The Clean Dish is such a great blog of grain-free and refined sugar free recipes. Rose’s photography is to die for and everything she makes is gold. I just love her creativity, her photography and her culinary creations.
What’s the best thing you ever made?
One of my most popular recipes are my Cinnamon Vanilla Almond Butter Banana Pops. Truth be told, I almost never posted this recipe. It thought it wasn’t creative enough and was too simple. But it was seriously my favorite treat so I posted it anyway and it went crazy on the web. I’m talking so crazy that the owner of Pinterest’s mom pinned it (she has over 7 million followers) and it ended up crashing my site for 2 whole days! Now I never hesitate to post the most simplest of recipes and in most cases, they end up being the most popular.
How did you find Paleo and what lead you to commit?
I have been Paleo for 4 years. A few of my athletic trainers turned me onto the Paleo lifestyle and I haven’t looked back. I was a motocross racer, racing nationally and needed to be in the best shape of my life. So for the first year and a half, I was 100% strict Paleo and it was really, really hard! After I retired from racing in 2012, I included a lot of Paleo desserts in my diet and added back in white rice, white potatoes, gluten free oats and raw milk dairy on occasion. I found the longer I was in the Paleo Lifestyle, the easier it became and I truly do not want to eat anything else now. I do have to say that I LOVE Paleo desserts and think it’s much easier to sustain a Paleo lifestyle for the long run when you allow these types of treats in your diet.
I started my blog in October 2012 after my sister, her husband and a few of their kids were diagnosed with health issues and severe allergies to dairy and nuts. I convinced them to go Paleo and wanted to create a place where she could access easy, kid approved, Paleo and allergy friendly recipes for her family. All the recipes I create are made with her family in mind. That’s why you’ll hardly ever see any nut based recipes on my blog and in the rare occurrence there is, I always give another option.
